I was at my friend's apartment when I looked outside and saw this light coming through the trees as the sun was beginning to set. I was drawn to this image because of the contrast between the sun's light illuminating the trees, and it casting shadows on the trees. This photo would be helpful when trying to create a late afternoon, almost dusk time of day for a particular piece. I also noticed the colors, specifically the amber, on some parts of the trees that were a result of the sun reaching those points. This amber color made the trees look more yellow, orange, and fall-like. It was interesting to me how even though these were all the same tree, they varied so much in their color because of the way they were lit; I see dark green, almost black, light green, amber, brown, yellow, white, and a tint of orange. Where the sun reached the leaves they looked softer and lighter, and where the leaves were in the shadows they looked crisper and rough. I get a cool feeling when I look at this photo because the light is not coming from directly above; it looks as if the sun were setting or rising and therefore the temperature would be cooler at this time of day.

Nice complex reaction to the image - nice analysis of what is going on
