Week #1 Light and Dark

On Saturday evening, I was outside with my family for a barbeque. We ate dinner outside with the Christmas tree lights brightening up the darkness of the night. The sky was dark and the green of the leaves and grass had turned almost black. The lights strung beneath the patio and interwoven in the tree brought about a blue and grey tinted light that casted diffused shadows when anyone stood beneath them. The lights were not bright enough to create a well lit space, but instead created a calm sense of peace. With music playing, laughter spewing, and people moving, the lights brought a soft comfort to the darkness around us. Once everyone had gone and the sounds had ceased, I went outside to snap this photo. I realized that while alone in the cold, quiet night, these grey/blue lights that once brought a soft comfort somehow became haunting and chilling. The lights became the only source of knowing what was around me. I noticed the light slowly disappearing around the edges of the yard, giving me an uneasy feeling of not knowing where the yard ended and the darkness began.

  1. Great story arc - I could almost see it translated to the stage - nice post!

I will talk about this in class but know that there is no such thing as grey light, I think this version of grey, as you stated is a version of pale blue, often times it is lavender
