Week #1 Nature vs. City
This photo was taken in Newport Beach, as I walked along the pier on Saturday evening. I took many photos that night; of the city lights, crowds of people bustling through shops and restaurants, and families with their fishing rods hovering over the water, waiting patiently for a bite. As I stood on the pier, I was fascinated by the stark contrast I was witnessing. I turned my head to the right to see the buzzing excitement of a Saturday night, out on the town. As I turned my head to left, I beheld the calm serenity of sand, water, and sky, harmoniously stacked one on top of the other, creating colors and textures so beautiful, they could only be produced by nature. I snapped a photo, and marveled at the shades of blue, grey, yellow, and orange. I admired the way the natural light made the water glisten, and created ambiguous shadows of people caught in the frame. The soft lull of crashing waves against the murmur of voices from the people ashore created a score to match mood of the setting.
