THE CAROUSEL

This is an image of The Carousel at The Spectrem. An overcast of the clouds above contrast the amount of light that can reach the fixtures and the overhang of the carousel umbrella creates a shadow effect for some of characters, all depending on where your standing. What I love about this picture is how the small details of a design can "come to life" with the proper lighting. Essentially, the purpose of a carousel is to create movement and lighting that draws in the audience's perspective so they may desire to engage with the apparatus. In a way, this image acts as a metaphor for what I'm trying to do in lighting class. Which is to create an effect that evokes a feeling of engagement and interaction with dance choreography.
